Two ways to count, and they differ by one
Ask how many days there are between 1 March and 5 March and you can reasonably answer four or five. Four is the gap; five counts both end dates. Contracts, notice periods and hotel bookings each assume a different convention, so the tool lets you pick.
Get this wrong on a notice period or a statutory deadline and the consequence is real.
What the calculator returns
- Total days — the raw count, with or without both ends
- Calendar span — years, months and days, handling varying month lengths
- Working days — Monday to Friday only
- Weeks — whole weeks plus the remainder
Worked example
1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026
- Total days
- 364
- Calendar span
- 11 months, 30 days
- Working days
- 261
- Weekend days
- 103
Where it gets used
- Notice periods and probation end dates
- Project timelines quoted in working days
- Statutory deadlines — GST returns, TDS deposits, filing dates
- Payment terms and interest on overdue invoices
- Leave calculations and eligibility windows
One limitation worth knowing
Working days exclude Saturdays and Sundays only. Public holidays are not deducted, and in India these vary by state, so a national list would be wrong for most users. If you are quoting a delivery date, subtract your own holiday calendar from the working-day figure.
Frequently asked questions
How many days are between two dates?
Subtract the earlier date from the later one. Whether you count both end dates depends on the convention — the calculator offers both.
Does this exclude public holidays?
No. Working days exclude weekends only, because public holidays differ by state across India.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. The calculation walks actual calendar dates, so 29 February is counted correctly.
