YouTube Earnings Calculator (India)

Estimate AdSense income from your monthly views and RPM, with realistic RPM ranges for Indian channels.

On this page

RPM is the number that matters

RPM is what you actually receive per thousand views, after YouTube's 45% share and across all views including unmonetised ones. CPM is what advertisers pay before that split. Creators comparing CPM figures are comparing a number they never see.

The formula

Monetised views = Total views × monetised % / 100
Earnings = Monetised views ÷ 1,000 × RPM

Not every view carries an ad. Ad blockers, viewers under 13, some content categories and mid-roll skips all reduce the monetised share. For most Indian channels, 50 to 70 percent is a realistic assumption.

RPM ranges by niche in India

NicheTypical RPMWhy
Finance, insurance, investing₹120 – ₹400Highest advertiser competition
Technology and software reviews₹80 – ₹200Strong commercial intent
Education and skills₹50 – ₹150Edtech advertisers bid actively
Business and marketing₹60 – ₹180B2B advertiser interest
Vlogs and lifestyle₹25 – ₹70Broad, low-intent audience
Entertainment and comedy₹20 – ₹60High views, low bids
Kids and family₹15 – ₹45Limited ad formats permitted

Language matters as much as topic. English-language content aimed at Indian professionals typically earns more than the same subject in Hindi, because advertiser demand differs. Audiences in the US, UK or Gulf countries raise RPM sharply regardless of language.

Worked example

500,000 monthly views, ₹55 RPM, 60% monetised

Monthly views
500,000
Monetised views
300,000
Monthly AdSense
₹16,500
Per year
₹1,98,000

AdSense is rarely the main income

For most Indian channels above 50,000 subscribers, ad revenue is the smallest of several streams. Realistic alternatives, roughly in order of what they earn:

  • Brand integrations. Commonly ₹500 to ₹2,000 per thousand views for a dedicated segment, negotiated per deal.
  • Affiliate links. Strong in tech, finance and product review niches.
  • Your own product or course. The highest margin option, and the one that does not depend on the platform.
  • Memberships and Super Thanks. Meaningful for tight communities, modest in absolute terms.

A channel earning ₹16,500 from AdSense at 500,000 monthly views can realistically earn several times that from a single well-matched brand deal in the same month.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good RPM in India?

Between ₹25 and ₹80 for general Hindi content, and ₹100 or more for finance, technology and business niches with English-speaking or overseas audiences.

How many views to earn ₹1 lakh a month from AdSense?

At ₹50 RPM with 60% monetisation, roughly 3.3 million monthly views. At ₹150 RPM in a finance niche, closer to 1.1 million.

Are Shorts earnings included?

No. Shorts use a separate revenue pool with much lower effective RPM, typically under ₹10. Calculate long-form and Shorts separately.

When does YouTube pay?

Monthly, once the balance crosses the payment threshold, usually around the 21st to 26th for the previous month's earnings.
